You Need More Than One Payment Processsor

I had one of the worst experiences of my life with one of the most popular companies smaller online businesses use to accept money . As a result, I’ll never ever use them to pay for something online again. And I’m not the only one.

Imagine this.

Someone comes to your site. They’ve read an article of yours. They love you. They worship the cloud that you float on. But when they get to your site, they see that the only way you’re accepting credit cards is through the company that would not guarantee their refund last time, or one they think is becoming too much like big brother. Or maybe they just don’t take money from that country.

They want to buy from you. They’d LOVE to buy from you. But not enough to deal with a company they are uncomfortable with. They close the window and walk away. You blew a sale and you don’t even know it.

Sure, sometimes those “Why aren’t you buying” forms will help you out, but I’ll tell you a secret - I almost never fill those out. I basically have to have only one very specific objection in mind that I know they’ll overcome. And that is, I won’t pay for anything online with the company you use.

There are dozens of reasons why people won’t buy from you that have to do with payment processors that aren’t always about personal vendettas. :) Perhaps cards in their country aren’t accepted. Maybe they need to write a check because their accounts are all brand new. It happens much more often than you think - offer as many payment options as you can without significantly raising your costs. At least one domestic and one international payment processor ought to do it.
