Finding Your Way With A Phone Map

There should be an image here!I hate it when I get lost. And without the help of someone who knows where they’re going, this happens to me more than I might like to admit. All of that being said, most people don’t really stop to think about getting lost in say, the local mall. But for those people visiting an area for the first time, having a mobile phone app that can provide you with a way to locate needed services is a real plus.

Enter the wonderful world of indoor map makers. As explained by this article, mobile apps for indoor maps are becoming a very popular concept. Think about it, folks needing to find something critical like the nearest bathroom could save themselves an unfortunate problem by having access to maps like this.

What is likely to happen in the future, is the localized maps will begin to be more dynamic, offering help for malls, schools and other indoor spaces that need to be mapped for those who visit the halls of these locations. Personally, I think options like this are great. They can prove to be a huge time saver. There is really no question about it. The next step will be seeing more augmented reality mapping taking place, assuming the trends continue as they have been.

Back in 1984 or 1985, I worked with what was then cellular one to test the giant yet extremely reliable Motorola StarTAC. I haven’t lived without a mobile phone since then. My first smart phone was the blackberry 7200, I think it was called, It was blue and useless as a phone but did email well.

I’ve never owned an smart phone or any kind of mobile phone, ever. And I am pretty sure I never will, unless someone throws one at me, in that case I’d prefer an iPhone. I admit that there’s been times when I have had the need for one, but those situations usually solve themselves anyway. It is a small price to pay for the freedom I have.

I’ve had several phones over the years, none smart. The closest I came was my current phone, the Samsung SGH-A797. It was sold to me as “an almost smart phone” at the time. The AT&T seller actually said that.
Next week I should own the iPhone 4S…I cant wait!

I go way back…  My first Smartphone was the Kyocera 6035, with the Palm OS.  It was so long ago I can’t even remember the version.  Mostly got it because I could sync contacts and could easily restore my phone numbers, but found out all the things it could do and never went back.

No way could I ever go back to that, but I do remember it fondly!
