AnyClip Is A Great Idea For A Niche Search Engine
As this recent TechCrunch post points out, people make movie clip references nearly everyday. I would even go so far as to say they do this both online and off. So it seems fairly obvious to me that the concept of something like a clip based search engine would definitely find itself meeting a hungry demand.
The single biggest challenge I see myself, is the lack definable means of monetizing this. Sure, perhaps one could just toss along some ads. But this model exclusively might be pretty weak for such a young company.
And finally, there is the question of the studios that have no interest in cooperating with AnyClip and their desire to share movie clips. See, even though it is not the entire movie, copyright law here in the states means that AnyClip will need to gain extensive permissions before really being able to build up their business. The problem is if any one studio is not playing ball, this defeats AnyClip’s goal of providing maximum clip options for their users.
