More Thoughts On DNS Hijacking
One of the biggest questions is when is it okay to allow changes in NXDOMAIN and when is it not? I find that if you are using an ISP that is automatically making your DNS point to something other than a cannot be found page, it is not okay.
However if one chooses to allow a service such as OpenDNS to do this in exchange for DNS service that provides value added services, then this is fine. The end user made a blatant choice in the matter.
In response to some of the criticism on this matter, a few ISPs have opted to provide alternative lists of DNS servers end users can use if they like. Sadly however, many other ISPs are not providing any such list.

What little there is of the article is interesting; but it’s too geeky for more geeks. Without having to research all over the net to understand the problem, I’d like to see this article explain the problem more clearly, tell us how to check our own situation (other than telephone tech support), and how to fix the problem. As it stands, I recognize that there’s a problem, but have no idea if I have it or what to do about it if I do.
