Should Google Be Worried About Bing?

I still have mixed feelings about Bing as a competitor to Google. This early in its young life, Bing is still very much in need of more development asĀ I see it. The search results that come up are good, but more often than not I find that, for how-tos, Google is more accurate based on my own usage.
Yet by the same token, if you are looking to explore a topic, I think Bing wins hands down. So to that end, it just matters how you happen to look at it. Or something like that anyway.
As this article points out, this is not Microsoft’s first entrance into the search engine market. And I might even go so far as to say that talks with Yahoo! were little more than something to stall Yahoo! while Microsoft worked on Bing behind the scenes. However it went down, there is no question that Bing is better than Yahoo! and certainly something that Google will need to watch in its rear view mirror.

I think Google is too embedded into our culture. You never heard any say “Yahoo it” or “ask Jeeves”, but you very commonly hear the phrase “Google it”. It’s almost taken on a life of it’s own. I don’t see BIng accomplishing a fraction of Google has.

When I think of Google, I think of the SR-71. Any time some gets close to breaking its record they just take it up and push a little harder on the throttle. ( a quote I heard from one of the pilots)
@Neomic I remember Ask Jeeves, perhaps it’ll take the next generation to rebel against Google and flock to something else.
