MySpace Destined To Become The Next Friendster

There should be an image here!Seems like these days, MySpace is in more trouble than ever. Going beyond terrible design and a me-too approach to growth, now the social space is looking at a hit to their ad revenue as well.

And to be honest, also hearing that their usership is going stale is not really that big of a shock, either. Seems like these days MySpace is more in tune with advertising, music and movies than it is with their users. And while I would normally have no problem with this as I am sure they would like to make enough money to stay afloat, I am not convinced that the needs of the user is being heard anymore.

At the end of the day, I almost feel bad for the new management team. Basically all they have managed to do is inherit a lot of problems as Google cuts their ad revenue and users such as myself continue to complain about how fruitless it is to continue copy-cating other social web sites.

Amen to that! I have been saying this all along about MySpace. I feel it is definitely in the decline and not going anywhere at this point. I believe Chris put it right when he said it could be becoming the next Friendster! Who ever used that to begin with? I have made some blog posts about my annoyance towards MySpace before. They have way too many ads and you are right, they aren’t focused on the user anymore! Today they are stricly a duplicate of other social networks and no longer have their own identity.

Still is the first place to look for a lot of musicians and indie rockers, though I smell Reverbnation and others nipping at their heels on that front as well…

Sad, really. I’ll always enjoy the feature of customization that MySpace allows it’s users…time to move on, I guess.

I do agree with you that Myspace is getting stale. I know a lot of people who still have Myspace pages, but only because they are afraid to let go. For me, it’s no longer creating any friendship connections as most of the new people I meet are on Facebook.

“not very good”? Voice recognition on OS X is utterly putrid. I’ve been trying it every OS upgrade since Tiger and it has never gotten any better.
