Don Quixote Takes On Google In Search

Microsoft search efforts have been for the most part, boring and about as accurate as meta-search engines seen in the ’90’s. But it seems that the software giant is going to throw around some more money in hopes of taking back some of the search engine market from the mighty Google.
Can anyone see where this is going? Once again the Post-Gates era rolls forward as Microsoft continues to duel with windmills. Totally out classed and out of touch with what the user is wanting, MS is best off sticking to Enterprise and home based software products. Even if by some miracle they are able to consistently provide better results than Google, MS would then be tasked with un-doing the branding that Google has provided to everyone already. Not going to happen.
At the end of the day, Google will fail just as much trying to overtake MS in the Office suite business. Again, because Google does not understand the market in question. That and because MS Office just does more than Google’s alternative. The same applies for Microsoft in the search market. Google just provides what most believe to be a greater value here. Again, there is really no argument here. MS must provide a better experience with vastly better query results, then get people to “unlearn” such phrases as “let me Google that”.

You’re right. Google does what they do best. They focus on making their Search product better and better. That might be acquisitions that improve their product or just take a smaller player out of the market. Vey similar to the way Adobe bought Macromedia with a 2-prong approach/result. One was to acquire Flash and add to their suite of amazing products and the other was to get Macromedia Freehand (previously an Aldus product) to take them of the shelves. Illustrator vs. Freehand. Unfortunately, we won’t be hearing that discussion anymore. To bad as as IMHO, Frrehand was a better product, but Adobe won’t support both and has made it clear that they will not be working on Freehand and will slowly discontinue support. Macromedia made a bad ddecision letting Frrenand go, but I’m sure that would of been a deal breaker…what a waste! If I had the money, I would buy Freehand and continue to keep it the best vector-based product on the market. Maybe Google will do the same with Eurekster. I’ve noticed that their News and Blog links are down which is usually the first sign that a sale is being negotiated. You heard it hear.
