Twitter Interview With Beavis And Butthead?

twitterJust how valuable is Twitter? Would one who has never used it before truly “get it” at first pass, or instead find themselves wasting tremendous amounts of time on this rather unusual communication service? These questions and more, were more less NOT covered in a recent interview with the Twitter founders and the NY Times’ own Maureen Dowd.

In the interview, I cannot help but wonder if she felt like she was interviewing Beavis And Butthead. Being completely serious here, I must say this is one of the most uninformative, useless interviews I have ever had the misfortune of reading. For every answer the founders gave, it was soon followed up by one or two silly remarks that had nothing to do with the questions being asked.

Understand that I am not saying that the questions were all that great to start with mind you, but I honestly was hoping to gain more insight in where the Twitter founders hope to see the service in five years, if they are ever going to unveil a sane revenue model or if they are just waiting to be bought out at some point. Really let down, but hey, it is the interview many of us were seeking nonetheless. Would I rate this interview with a complete Fail Whale? Yes, considering the information it shared, I am afraid that I would have to.

It would have helped if Maureen Down didn’t ask this as her first question: “Did you know you were designing a toy for bored celebrities and high-school girls?”

    That’s a fail, right there.

Were you really expecting the guys from Twitter to show their deck of cards? I wasn’t.

Hey, that’s not fair! I’m neither a celebrity nor a high school girl. Besides, I follow no more than 25 celebrities (and only 3 high school girls…)

She also asked them to limit their answers to 140 characters. I don’t think Maureen was taking this interview seriously herself.

Matt, lighten up. Is it just annoying that another pair of slacker-like guys has come up with the latest thing? I would be waiting for Google’s call if I was in their position, and have fun in the meantime.
