Is MySpace Finally Ready To Grow Up

myspaceI decided early on that I was not going to speak to any sort of user count between MySpace and like minded social media service. Not because I am being kind, rather that I do not have the hard data in front of me. Despite this, I am willing to talk about the changing of the guard taking place at MySpace. Both the CEO and Founder, “Tom”, are being pushed aside for someone new according to this article from MediaMemo.

What I am finding myself wondering is whether or not we will see MySpace getting serious about putting tighter controls on the abusive amount of painful HTML being spewed out of user profiles and if the company is going to get serious about competing with Twitter’s ease of use.

Yes, I will say it on the record. MySpace has the worse UI of any of the social sites out there to date. And this is saying a lot as none of them are really all that intuitive. What with Twitter finally bringing on some real help in the design front, it seems like it might be time for MySpace to begin branching out beyond rock stars and starry eyed teenagers looking to post their latest “OMG” moments. Just saying…
