Hulu Continues To Stomp YouTube

There are some things that YouTube does really well. Allowing people to create video media for others to enjoy and share in, for instance. No question about it, in this regard YouTube is king of the jungle. Unfortunately however, it seems like YouTube is beginning to lose focus on their strengths as they are both fighting for ABC content in addition to providing other content no one actually cares about anymore.
As I type this, both Hulu and YouTube are in a frenzy to woo over ABC content onto their own video networks. Sadly, this only really makes sense for one of the perspective players…Hulu. And should Hulu be able to make this happen, combined with their existing grip on content from the other networks, YouTube can forget about competing in the mainstream media area.
As you can see in Chris’ video above, YouTube enabled him to gain 50,000 subscribers back in 2008. Today, that number is well over 60,000. But I think the message for YouTube is clear. Let Hulu do what it does best. Because YouTube is just not designed for anything other than user created content and discussion as far as I am concerned. And really, this should serve as a positive thing rather than a negative one.

Whereas I agree YouTube should stick wth what they’re good at, the problem is that “what they’re good at” and “making money at it” are two keys to the puzzle.
Unless user generated content starts to translate into revenue,”what they’re good at” will be sucking money out of google.

I actually prefer the youtube ’shows’ section to hulu’s interface… and it’s only a matter of time before people start noticing that youtube has them.
Additionally, youtube has way more traffic, still.

I totally agree with Keif. Google must do something to make money from YouTube. They are losing a lot of money every day. I don’t want the site to change to a hulu-like style either, but Google has to do something to at least stop losing money (I’m sure even breaking even would be better instead of losses for them).

It you tube and Hulu bot just ran what people want and and what TV eps people missed Torrent traffic would drop by half i think.
CBS / Viacom sued you-tube over people posting aired eps and that was stupid it was like free advertising as people saw the sows or part and want to see more and tuned in on their TVs wow and they got the free. Now Hulu signs some papers and they pay them to air what you-tube posted free DUMB.
I like that can go the hulu and find shows i want to see dur to work I missed (yes I one the last people in the world with DVR) I torrent show and delete after watching unless i wan to see them again I have better use of my hd drive space and its not for videos and Music that what DVD and that thing called a RADIO is for .
no hard drive need and you have a radio in ever car wow.
You tube is for people who want to post video of the friend doing funny thing or make statement on what is going on in the world we use it to fight bad laws and to win an elections but we don’t need it to be outr late night TV or re-run hot spot.
ABC,NBC and CBS post to the web there shows on their web sites why give it out to some else? Drive space is getting cheaper and easier to set up.
Free You tube of TV and just leave to Hulu .. the just want our brains to eat anyway and good luck on that most people viewing Tv too much have none to eat lol

I still fail to see what Hulu’s appeal is to me, past the fact that it’s run by NBC. I mean, wouldn’t it make sense that these big networks decided to put their episodes on an already established brand (YouTube) for everyone to see? Or these people still want to experiment on web based advertising?
I believe no one wants to see advertisements interfering with our videos - it’s the pop-up ad 2.0. And Google’s AdSense is a perfect system - it targets specific segments of the market and earns them revenue…the marketing guys really need to do something innovative to catch the public’s attention if they can’t use these tools to maximize their profit.
