Your Web Design Is Already Obsolete

Worried about how the hierarchy of your website is put together? Hoping it makes sense? With the exception of it looking clean and navigable, don’t sweat it. Yes, that is right, according to this article much of what we consider important about web site layout is largely, a waste of time.
The myth of “total user experience” is largely, not what most of us have thought it seems. According to Forbes, most site visitors come to read or buy what they want, then leave. This is not to say things always work out this way, but it certainly gives all of us something to think about with regard to how we create a web site’s hierarchy, that is for sure.
Is it time to forget a simple to navigate menu and just toss stuff together salad style? Not so fast. It is my opinion that you should take what is being said above with a grain of salt. Not because I think it is wrong, rather due to the fact that I believe that there is a blanket outlook being presented that might not be totally accurate for all web site purposes.

My opinion: The frontend (incl navigation) is for your viewers/customers/readers. The backend (incl. hierarchy etc) is for you, to allow you expand, or prune, easily.

I love the bit about you using the BLINK tag, gave me a nice laugh. Also, I agree with you, Chris.

I’ve always preferred Plain and Simple.
Then once and awhile I have my blind friend test the site to see if it’s “accessible.”
My sites usual are.

When I’m looking for information I loathe going to sites that are “interactive” or seem to think that the world begins and ends with Flash. It’s slow, clunky and I don’t need to see a bunch of floating heads or watch a movie. I want to get the information I need and go.
Then there’s the interactive sites with nothing to see. All menus and fluff, but no substance. Movie sites are notorious for this.
News sites are especially bad. They think we can all sit around and watch their videos all day for information when we would be better off reading the important stuff and getting on to the next task.
Stick to the basics. If you really NEED Flash, use it. If you really NEED video, use it, but many people just don’t have time to fiddle around with more than the basics. The faster they can get their information, the happier they’ll be.
