Amazon Pushes The Envelope With Elastic MapReduce

Not too long back, trying to do something as time consuming Hadoop on a smaller scale bordered on impossible, to at the very least, not worthwhile for many smaller research firms. Now that Amazon has released Elastic MapReduce for the masses, it is believed that this new service is going to do wonders for empowering those on tighter budgets to work with processing tremendous amounts of data without the overhead needed previously.

What many people might not realize is that some researchers were already using Hadoop on Amazon’s EC2. What has changed now is the fact that easy to use tools are now in place for EC2 users that will making elastic computing with Hadoop much easier and obtainable with less work.

Working with tremendous amounts of data up until now was something of a challenge. But with these new tools from Amazon at the disposal of the world’s researchers, I see a lot of good things coming down the line here in future.
