Silly HP - Android Is For Phones!

Above image is merely a dramatization. In real life, HP contains neither corn nor are they frosted

I have spoken at length about the idea of bringing forth Android, designed by Google, to the world of netbooks in the past. And at the time, I felt that it could work with enough development effort tossed into the mix. Yet today, I am feeling differently. I think HP would be setting themselves up to fail by trying to bring in Android to the netbook world without a better understanding of what hurdles they have in front of them.

The problem that I came to realize just today is that people have specific expectations when it comes to how a netbook works. And while I would love to see Linux or Android making significant strides here, I do have enough faith in Android just yet… it might be in a position to surprise me down the road.

As Android makes its way onto the netbook scene, I am also sure we will be seeing the well over-hyped Google browser right along with it. A browser, that in my opinion, was never really needed or wanted. But as trends have shown me, I appear to be wrong about the browser. So perhaps, just maybe, I will also be wrong about the potential success of netbooks loaded with Android doing well?

Woo! I have the T-Mobile G1 - it does have quite a few bugs, and like most other OS’, it does sometimes freeze and it does have applications that force close unnecessarily.

Android is a good OS for phones. It would definitely be an epic fail for HP to put it on netbooks. HP still has a ways to go with Android anyways. Why try it in netbooks?
