MySpace And Windows Mobile - Discrimination Waiting To Happen?

To be clear, I have no problem whatsoever with MySpace finally making its way over to the mobile world. Frankly, I think it is a bit overdue in many ways. But to simply choose to release MySpace on Windows Mobile only, is limiting. Even though I am not super big on Windows Mobile or MySpace these days, I cannot help but feel like Windows Mobile selecting something as LAME as MySpace is confusing to me. Yes, Myspace has long since been considered a Microsoft shop, but even still, why not select a more “functional” social network?
After about thirty seconds of thinking about it, I came to the conclusion the only thing that makes sense about Microsoft wanting any part of this has to be control and exclusivity. Control in the sense that clearly, MySpace is going to bend over and grab their ankles anytime Microsoft even hints at the need to do so. Exclusivity in the sense that no one in their right mind would even conceive of bringing a cow of bad web design like Myspace to the mobile world. So truth be told, I am sure Microsoft would get to keep this one all themselves. Lucky them… Will this lead to discrimination for other platforms wanting to use Myspace in a customized setup? Not too likely. Who the hell cares about Myspace with Twitter raging in the background?
But one benefit for Microsoft is something as big as Myspace, using a technology such as Silverlight that is having some difficulty catching up with Flash in usership, should be something that will provide Redmond with something to smile about…right? Perhaps, let’s start off for now by seeing where the Windows Mobile deal ends up first.
