Need yourself a new WordPress stats solution? Why not just use the same stats that the WordPress.com folks have been getting for some time now? Yes, there has now been a WordPress plugin released that will allow you to use that stats engine for your own hosted installation of WordPress.

What is the name? Automattic Stats. What does it do? A whole lot of neat stuff. It will deliver you unique page views and visits, referrers, top posts, search engine terms, outbound clicks, and incoming links. Here is a little more information about why the WordPress people put this out.

One of the biggest complaints we hear when people switch to hosting their own blog is that they miss the stats system. (The others are that they miss the traffic from the community, tags, avatars, and comment tracking.) There are lots of stats plugins available for WordPress.org, but many of them slow down the site because they’re writing to a DB or they show generic website stats that aren’t tailored for blogs.

Go pick it up for yourself and see how it ranks with some of the other stats and tracking scripts out there. I bet you will not be disappointed.
