Using MySpace To Build A Cult

Come on, you know you have said to yourself at least once, “It sure would be nice to have a cult following of MySpace users.” If you haven’t, then why not? I take MySpace as an example — really, the advice I am about to share with you could be used with any number of “social networks” out there.
Post updates about your Web project on MySpace. Using the bulletin feature, you can reach everybody on your friends list in one single post. MySpace’s blog section is pretty dull and boring. I’d much rather use the bulletin feature because if you write an interesting enough headline, you are bound to get some folks interested.
You might also look out there for various tools or widgets relating back to your Web site. These can sometimes be posted on MySpace and give your friends another way to check out your latest and greatest works. FeedBurner’s animated headlines is a good example of this.
Need a few more ideas? Check out Chris Pirillo’s pimping of bLaugh on his profile, and my own pushing of the goods on my MySpace profile page.
If you have a product or Web site you would like to push, MySpace can be a good place to get the word out about it. I have been doing this for some time now, and I have had pretty good results.
