Should you really be flashing your visitors? Sure we all love flash movies and how neat it make everything look. Just like with anything though, sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. Call me old fashioned, but I do not want a Web site looking like a Las Vegas casino.
How is Flash Done Right in Web Design?
In my opinion, flash is done right in a Web site when it adds something to the experience, and does not take it over. Embedded media players, some navigation and logos are a good example of this. For the most part, my rule would be that if it does something for me to better the experience, it should stay.
How is Flash Done Wrong in Web Design?
I don’t like it when a Web site has flash just for the sake of having flash. Giving me random punch the monkey ads or a swirly flash graphic that is huge and ugly right in the middle of the page is just not cool. You have to keep in mind that you want your Web site to be found functional by everybody, and the more flash you add the more people you might alienate.
You might also keep in mind that search engine spiders have a difficult time with combing over flash content. If you want to make it to the top of the search results, I would say keep your flash at a minimum. Flash can be fun and functional at times, but for most people it just might not be needed.
