The most important thing you need to cover in your title is what you subject is about. Always make sure that is in focus before you mention anything else. Chances are, unless you are some Web celebrity, your not going to be able to sell a story on your name alone. Now if Chris Pirillo put his name at the first of the story - that might gain attention and respect. Larry Smith though just in not going to cut it.
Try to be whitty when writing as well. Do you best not to tell a joke, but at least a pun on words. This can sometimes be a good way to catch somebody with something they are familiar with. “My Post on Titles” is not going to get attention. Now “The Secrets of Writing a Good Title” does work. That is because it makes you feel like you are a part of something special. You know what secrets are, and you know your not suppose to know them. You know what titles are as well. Mixed together you have something people want to read more about.
So next time, before you get to posting that award winning article posted or you post that new help page, give some thought about the title because that is what people are going to remember it by best.
