Beautiful Dark Designs

  • No Related Post

I do not know who you should blame it on, but for some reason dark designs do not seem to be that popular these days. Maybe it was Google’s fault for showing people that simple could be good as well. Maybe it is this whole Web 2.0 thing that says you have to have soft colors and big fonts.

Whatever the reason might be, dark designs do not get the respect they deserve. They can be as beautiful and as usable as any other layout. Want proof? I just happened to run across a Web site that lists thirty great dark designs.

Here is a little more information on the dark designs.

Dark designs can be really stunning. I mean, really. In Web 2.0 designers try to do their best to impress their visitors and in many cases they definitely succeed in doing so. As a second (out of five) part of our 50 Beautiful CSS-Based Web-Designs in 2006 collection we’d like to present some stunning, but rather unknown dark designs, which you really should have seen if your aim is to develop web-sites in the modern “Look and Feel”-style.

This is a great place to get started if you need a kick in the pants when it comes to inspiration. I have to say that all these designs are great and they give you (if nothing else) a good idea of how captivating a dark design can be.

Dark designs can be quite beautiful and it just depends on the message you’re trying to send. If you’re emphasizing artistic talent, you can go all the way with dark and it’s great. If you’re all or mostly about content, people will prefer light, spare design for one simple reason; it’s just easier to read.

I’ve found I’ll read about three sentences in light text on a dark background before I become annoyed and click away from that page. If I really need that information, I’ll highlight it to reverse to dark-on-light so the text will be readable.

Simple.
