Favorite Domain Tools

When it comes to learning more about a domain name, you have or a domain name you are interested in, there are a lot of ways you can go for good quality information. Over the past year or so there have been many Web applications that let you do everything from whois searches to registering the domain right there on the Web site.

With that said, I figured now would be as good of a time as any to share with you some of my favorite domain name tools.

Ajaxwhois is a very nice whois search for existing domain names. Now for those of you who might not know what a whois search is - think of it as the information about the owner and the domain name itself. That would the short way of putting it. With Ajaxwhois, all you need to do is type the domain name in the text box and watch the Web site do the rest of the work.

Another domain name tool that I like is AjaxDNS. Don’t ask me why every good tool has to put “ajax” in their name, because I have not figured that one out either. Goofy names aside though, this Web site application delivers a lot. From the Web interface you can The options included are DNS lookup, WHOIS lookup, ARIN IP lookup, HTTP header check, spam blacklist check, ping, or DNS traversal check.

Do you have any other good domain name tools that I might have left out? Send them my way or leave a comment because I always enjoy hearing about new Online domain name tools.

I tried Ajaxwhois but found it to be unreliable. For example, I searched for “reece” and it said that reece.biz was available. So I quickly logged onto my Godaddy.com account to register it, but discovered that it was actually already taken. So for now, I think I will stick with Godaddy search which is pretty simple too.

Thanks,
Jim
