Branch Out With Your Web Site

  • No Related Post

Have you reached that point with your Web site or online project to where you think you have done everything you can do? Maybe you are not out of content ideas. Maybe you just need to look at spreading yourself out into more directions. Now I am not talking about covering more content - I am talking about bringing the content to folks in new and interesting ways.

Think of your Web site as a tree. Right now if you have one type of content, your tree is just one long stick that goes straight up into the air. You need to add some branches. Now what could your branches be?

How about adding a set of forums to your Web site? Forums are a good way to give your large community a place to post and share ideas. It is also a fun place to just hang out and discuss whatever your Web site is about.

How about adding a podcast? These days it seems like almost every subject has podcast about it, so there is no reason why your voice should not be in the mix. This gives your viewers an interesting and unique selection of content that your competitors might not be doing.

You could always install something like WordPress and give people a daily dose of your personal thoughts as well. This would drive people to check out your Web site every day, no matter if they come through via the RSS feed or via the Web site itself.

The one thing I want you to take away from this is that no door should be left shut. As your online brand gets bigger, you should branch out to make sure you are giving all these folks a reason to stick around.

Mitch:

It’s unfortunate to see Lockergnome, in all of its various personalities, become a publication that can in great part be skipped, knowing that every third or fourth issue is sufficient to keep current, because repetitious use of the same material has become frequently commonplace.

Too bad, as I have been a reader of the LG publications for some ten years, and used to count on the info therein to be current and fresh and informative, where now it is often stale and primarily seeming to be set up as filler.

Too bad.

Chuck Billow

Sorry you feel that way Chuck. I know myself and many other Lockergnome writers go out of our way to give content out there for anybody and everybody to enjoy and get some use out of. Of course, if you target one group of folks - another group of folks get left out. It is hard to keep everybody happy with every single post. If you can give me a list of topics you would like to see discussed or covered here, please E-mail them to me and I’ll be more than happy to add them to my list of topics to cover.
