I have a confession. I haven’t read enough books from the Web design category to justify creating a top 10 list for books. But I’ve read or heard about a few good ones that are worth mentioning:
Designing the Obvious: A Common Sense Approach to Web Application Design: The author of this one has a feature article this week about the design of craigslist.
Designing With Web Standards, Second Edition by Jeffrey Zeldman: I read the first edition, and recommend it. From what I understand, Zeldman made a lot of updates.
CSS: The Missing Manual: Seeing good reviews.
CSS Cookbook, 2nd ed.: I also read the first edition and liked it. Based on what I saw of the second edition, it covers new topics that many ask about.
Web Design in a Nutshell, 3rd Edition: I’ve been a fan of this one since the first edition in 1998. I used it so much that I had pages falling out. It’s a great book for those who aren’t absolute beginners, but need help beyond the basics.
