Bandwidth Meter

Do you find yourself wanting a Firefox extension that displays your public IP address, displays your public domain name, and tests your speed and bandwidth with uploads and downloads? Sure, it is not a question I find myself with on a daily basis, but it is one that needs to be solved all the same.

So where is the inside information? Here are a few more tech notes from the extension’s author:

This extension adds “Bandwidth Meter” to the Tools Menu. This extension runs under any OS. If you use Windows, you could try our other Windows specific extension “Broadband Speed test and Diagnostics” that has extra features and can only run under Windows. We are creating this because we get many requests from non-Windows users.

Coming from my work inside of the Web hosting industry, I think some folks might be a little over obsessed with knowing all this bandwidth information. On the other hand though, it can be very helpful to have this stuff handy when you need to troubleshoot an issue.

This Firefox extension is for version 1.5 and up of the browser. To pick it up and use it yourself, go download it from the Mozilla Update Web site.
