WindFox

Now living in the dusty plains of northern Texas, I don’t do a lot of surfing. Actually, I can honestly say I have never surfed before. For those of you who do surf without a keyboard, WindFox is an extension to take with you to the beach.

Here is what the developers of the extension have to say about it.

Windfox is an extension that displays the actual wind speed, wind direction and air temperature at your favorite surfspot in your Firefox browser. The extension checks Windfinder.com for new observations every 15 minutes. So in order for the extension to be useful you should be permanently online.

You can also configure a windspeed threshold. When the threshold is exceeded Windfox alerts you with a flashlight. You can also use the extension to switch to the corresponding wind report or forecast on the Windfinder web site. Windfox automatically uses your browser’s default language.

Now unless I invent some sort of new “dirt surfing” sport, I will not get too much use out of this extension. I could see though where it would be very handy for folks who do want to keep track of how hard the wind is blowing.

This Firefox extension is for versions 1.5 and up of the browser. To pick up your copy all you need to do is download it via the Mozilla Add-ons Web site.
