Once you start talking about networks and servers, a lot of folks start rolling their eyes and looking the other way. This stuff is complicated and hard to most, but it does not have to be. The Firefox extension ServStats makes getting information about connectivity a little easier.
Here is what the folks behind ServStats have to say about it.
ServStats is a Firefox extension that lets users share statistics about web server connectivity and diagnose network failures. With ServStats, you can just push a button in your browser to find out the number of times other people have attempted to connect to a server, the average latency and rate of failure for that server, and more.
ServStats is part of the Knowledge Plane research project at MIT. Our objective is to provide a platform for exchanging network knowledge and data and performing probabilistic reasoning. ServStats is the first step towards a system for automatically diagnosing network failures using data from users and Diagnostic Agents.
If you are looking for a nice way to diagnose network failures, this is the tool for you.
This Firefox extension is for versions 1.5 and up of the browser. To pick up your copy all you need to do is download it via the Mozilla Add-ons Web site.
