They’re baaack! Yes, Writely is back and taking registrations. On the flip side however, why do I want to use this service over a localized option?

If you’ve been waiting on pins and needles for the popular, Google-acquired Writely to re-open its registration to new users, today is your lucky day.

For those of you unfamiliar with Writely, it’s a saucy little web-based word processor that lets you share and collaborate (in real-time) on documents from your browser. You can open, edit, and save Microsoft Word documents, publish documents on the web or your blog, and do a lot of other handy little things you might find particularly useful, especially if you do a lot of collaboration. New registrations for Writely closed when Google snatched it up (though there were ways to get an invite), but it looks like the big G has decided that Writely’s ready for primetime (well, it’s still technically beta, but this is Google, people).
