Need a new way to navigate through a Web site? Maybe your mouse is broken and you don’t have another six laying around like I do. What would you say if I told you I had an extension that would allow you to navigate through the Web by numbers? No, this is no public access children’s program. This is a Firefox extension that can come in handy if you find yourself without a mouse.
Here is what the extension developer has to say about NumberFox.
NumberFox numbers hyperlinks and form elements for easy keyboard navigation. When activated, enter a number that corresponds to a numbered link. Then press return to follow that link.
Use the following shortcuts to control NumberFox:
on windows/linux:
alt + w, to activate
alt + up/down, to cycle through links
return, to follow the selected link.on a mac:
apple + e, to activate
option + up/down, to cycle through links.
return, to follow the selected link.
It might take a little while to get used to the idea, but after a while navigating by numbers is not really that bad at all. Some might say it is a little quicker than moving your hands off the keyboard to click on a link. If you find yourself being a faster typist than a mouse user, than this extension is right for you.
This Firefox extension is for versions 1.5 and up of the browser. If you want to download it and try it out for yourself, you can do so at the Mozilla Update Web site.
