Web designers and their hit or miss pet projects

I believe that most Web designers can relate to this one some level. Hit or miss projects are often said to be a fact of life. But it does raise the question: Can the mistakes be avoided by learning from mistakes of others?

The web gives everyone the ability and potential audience to do something great. Unfortunately the law of averages gives everyone a ridiculously steep hill to climb on the way to that greatness.

For web professionals it’s so easy to throw up a project on the web to see if it sticks that restraint is usually no match for irrational exuberance. These side projects are mostly fueled by nothing more than optimism and passion — when that fades there’s no business model, no spare time and eventually no more site.

Trust me, I know, because if it weren’t for Paul Scrivens and Keith Robinson I’d be at the top of this list… Source: webjillion.com
