Do you feel that you have a firm understanding of your client’s needs? You just want to triple check as more often than not we will miss something vital to the success of our Web site design.

Robert Murray, President of iProspect argues in a recent article on mediapost that search engine marketing firms should stick to their knitting and only do search.

Robert, with respect, I think that’s the wrong approach for many customers considering purchasing search marketing services.

When I first started in the search engine marketing industry in 2000, I was working for Portent Interactive, a boutique interactive agency based in Seattle; we built websites and content management systems.

One of our clients at the time, Dessy Creations, was a women’s dress manufacturer. After helping the company design a better website that increased traffic to Dessy’s retail customers, the owner of the company, Alan Dessy asked how he could get even more traffic. We told him use search engines to drive traffic to your site. And over time we redesigned Alan’s website so that instead of just featuring pictures we integrated text and pictures on the same site. It was that fusion of experience, web design, programming expertise and search engine marketing understanding that enabled us to build a better website and achieve higher rankings on the web for Dessy….
