Server Switcher

Ever needed to switch between two servers when working on a Web site? The Server switcher allows you to switch between a development server and a live server, so you an see the differences in your work. For folks that spend a lot of time in web development, this extension is one they must have.

Here is what the Server Switcher Firefox extension author has to say.

Server Switcher is a navigational help tool for web developers. It allows you to easily switch between sites on your development and live servers, so that you can immediately see the differences.

Use case: When you are on http://localhost/page.html (your development-server) and click the ServerSwitcher-icon you will instantly be redirected to http://www.yoursite.com/page.html (your live-server). (”localhost” and “www.yoursite.com” are of course configurable)

What are others saying about this extension? Here is one of the reviews:

Works, but needs to handle multiple sites. I have a local server, an in-house integration server, plus staging and production servers at a client site. Having “groups” of servers would fix this. Incorporating some regex into the name building would also be welcome. Keep up the good work!

Other features include an icon in address bar and you can create multiple development/live-server-pairs. This extension might not be for everybody, but it still has a lot to offer.

This Firefox extension is for versions 1.5 and up of the browser. If you want to download it and try it out for yourself, you can do so at the Mozilla Update Web site.
