The folks at Mozilla announced the winners of its Extend Firefox Contest. From all the choices I know that I see out there, this couldn’t have been an easy task. Mozilla launched this latest contest to encourage a new wave of extension development and showcase the skills of these extension writers.
In the grand prize category, Michael Wu won “Best New Extension Overall” for the Reveal extension. “Best Upgraded Extension” was taken home by the Web Developer extension by Chris Pederick. The “Best Use of New Firefox 1.5 Features” was won by Josep del Rio for Firefox Showcase.
There were also several “Best in Class” category awards as well. One for the best new extension, and one for the best upgraded extension. The most innovative new extension was Viamatic Foxpose by Vivek Jishtu. The upgraded extension that was the most innovative was Sage by Peter Andrews.
The most useful Firefox new extension was Separe by Massimo Mangoni. Scrapbook by Taiga Gomibuchi was the most useful upgraded extension. Best user experience went to Reveal by Michael Wu in the new division. The All-in-One Sidebar by Ingo Wennemaring won best user experience for the upgraded extension division.
Last but not least, the new extension that won best integration with a Web service was My Stickies by Jacob Wright. The upgraded extension that won best integration with a Web service was Forecast Fox by Aaron Sarna.
“A huge thanks goes out to all of the Extend Firefox participants, judges and sponsors, who together made the contest a great success,” said Mozilla Corp.’s Christopher Beard, vice president of products. “It was a hard decision to narrow down the winners considering the creativity and ingenuity on display. Our extension developers are really helping to reinvent the Firefox Web browsing experience.”
