Hosting.com Announces Free Hosting Plan

One of the biggest names in Web hosting, Hosting.com has announced they have a new free hosting plan available. So after this first sentence, I bet you are already asking, “So what is the catch?”. Well there is a one dollar setup fee, so technically I guess the hosting plan is free, but the setup is not. Also you will be beta testing Microsoft’s ASP.NET 2.0 or Microsoft’s SQL Server 2005.

For Windows hosting enthusiasts, this should be a good deal to try out some of the new features both ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 have to offer. For Aunt Mary, who just wants to post some pictures of the grandchildren, this is probably not for her.

I think this type of offer is what Microsoft really needs to get itself into the standard Web hosting door. Right now, in my opinion, Linux is Web hosting’s favorite child. I would also go so far to say as it is the better option when you are looking for a Web hosting solution these days.
