Go ahead, cut your domain name prices! It looks like everybody else is! Netcraft is reporting that Yahoo plans on keeping their own $4.98 domain name prices for a little longer. The price which was suppose to run out at the end of December, is now running till February 8.
In other domain pricing movements, Go Daddy has lowered its one-year .com price from $8.95 to $7.95, having shifted back and forth between the two prices periodically over the last year. The registrar recently expanded its hosting offerings, will be an advertiser in the Super Bowl on Feb. 6, but has not indicated whether it will support its $2.4 million commercial with any special pricing offers.
One thing is for sure, and that is this is the perfect time to start domain name shopping. Then again, this fight might get even more brutal, which is even better for the consumer. Could we see all the major domain name registers dropping their prices over the next few months? Kind of hard to tell right now, but never say never!
Netcraft also has a nice chart up showing all the biggest domain name registers and their prices for January 2005. If you want to do some side by side price matching, this is the place to visit.
