Yahoo! Drops Domain Name Price!

It seems that Yahoo! wants to become a stronger competitor in the domain name market. It has already done a pretty good job in the Web hosting industry. Currently it is in the top ten, although I would not consider its services to be as equal to some other Web hosts out there. The new domain name price set is $4.98, a bargain to many folks in search for a new or different domain name.
The folks at Netcraft has a nice article up on the situation.
While it’s not known precisely what Yahoo is paying per domain, few registrars offer domains to resellers at prices below $6.50 per domain. Since it is likely selling at a loss, Yahoo has limited the offer to one domain per customer, preventing arbitrage-related bulk purchases by owners of large domain portfolios.
At any rate, the competition is good for everybody. Lower prices mean more people can set up shop with their own Web site and it helps build the Internet.
One Gnomie had this to say. Before you go barreling in, read the small, and shaded gray, print:
Domains price Offer is open to new customers that purchase Domains.
Limit one offer per customer, and one use per customer on a single
account. Offer expires December 31, 2004 at 11:59 PM PST. Offers may not be
combined with any other offers or discounts, separated, redeemed for
cash, or transferred. Other terms and conditions apply; see the Yahoo!
