It looks as if SharePoint does not actually offer the ability to move documents and folders in SharePoint across WSS sites by default. This sucks, but never fear, true believers… there is hope.

Found mention of a module from syntergy.com that helps to rectify this problem. Definitely the way to go, in my opinion. It may require that extra work to get it going, but in the long run you will be glad that you did.

Cut and Paste is a SharePoint module that provides an easy way to move or copy documents from one document library to another. The cut/copy/paste operations are integrated into SharePoint’s user interface so there is no need to use explorer view or network neighborhood to copy a document from one location to another. Attributes and versions and are also maintained when documents are copied to the new location.

Out of the box SharePoint does not support any way to move a document that maintains the version history. Our module provides this key capability along with maintaining the original user and creation dates.
