Domain Hijackings to Become Easier

Keep a close eye on your domain name! Thanks to new rules from Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) domain name hijacking could become easier for the crooks that attempt such deeds. Some are saying though that it is not that big of a deal since ICANN’s guidelines still demand registrars requesting a transfer from another provider to seek approvals.
Netcraft first broke the story, and if it comes true or not it is definitely something Web folks and domain name owners should keep up on.
Domain registrars are warning customers that their domain names could become easier to hijack as a change in domain transfer rules takes effect Friday. Under new rules set by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), domain transfer requests will be automatically approved in five days unless they are explicitly denied by the current registrar.
