Change Your Browser’s Color Settings

If you are a designer and you haven’t changed the color settings of your browser, then you should at least consider it. You may be operating under false assumptions and everyone may not see the things as you do.

I stumbled across this little trick by accident when I installed Mozilla for the first time. I changed the default background to gray when I was just looking around all the settings and forgot to change it back. What I found was that many sites, even some popular ones, assume that you are using a white background and, as a reult, never set a backerground color. This isn’t a big deal on simple pages of pure text, but if you are coordinating a white background with your images, then it makes you look like an amatuer.

If you have a site with a white background, I’d like to issue a challenge: change your browser’s color settings and see how your site looks. Did you remember to set a background color? Let me know.

What Do You Think?
