Microsoft Plans for World Domination.

Well. Not exactly. Microsoft isn’t planning for World Domination, although it appears that Microsoft is trying to buy a bunch of smaller companies the next few years.
Steve Ballmer Microsoft CEO at Web 2.0 Conference:
“We buy 20 companies a year within the range of 50 to 200 million. My email is steveb@microsoft.com. If you want to sell your company, write to me.”
“We’ll probably buy 20 companies a year consistently for the next five years”
Companies Microsoft is targeting include Facebook and Yahoo!(Source)
Microsoft seems to think that Google is going to take over because Google is one of the larger companies that is also currently buying some companies.
What do you think of this? How would you feel if you were leaving in a complete “Microsoft” world? I wouldn’t really care; as long as Microsoft doesn’t mess with the economy too much, or ruin any of the great websites currently available. I don’t really care who owns what; as long as the content provided the said company isn’t changed around, I’ll still buy/use it. Lets just hope Microsoft doesn’t get it’s hopes up too much because I really don’t think people are going to sell their companies to Microsoft.
Hope Apple doesn’t jump on the bandwagon or else there will only be 3 brands you can purchase things from. Apple, Microsoft, and Google.

This is in a way fairly sad.
Concrete evidence that with Balmer at the helm the emphasis will be on attempting to acquire the “next thing” rather than innovate from within.
It would seem that Microsoft will simply continue to bleed whatever cash reserves they have on hand in an attempt to control new markets (X-Box, Zune) rather than actually make something innovative and exciting.
The fact that some of the best people are slowly leaving MS should also be cause for concern and were I a stockholder (oh wait, I am) I would be screaming bloody murder to have Balmer replaced BEFORE Gates leaves.
I do however hold interests in another tech company that is going gangbusters and seems to have a real grasp on what it means to create interesting, exciting and new technologies. Go Apple.

You ask:
How would you feel if were leaving in a complete “Microsoft” world? I wouldn’t really care;
Well it would STINK!. You never want one organism to dominate the environment. It either becomes stagnate or arrogant.
Example: I have Comcast, not because I think it is a great ISP. No! it real is not with the underhanded tactics of ‘hidden’ bandwidth usage limits or the more Insidious tricks with blocking bit torrents.
No, I use Comcast, at a VERY inflated price compared to the rest of the civilized world, because it is either Comcast or dial-up.
A Microsoft only world would be like my Comcast world full of trick and deceits at inflated prices.
