Everyone knows about YouTube, and I’ll be surprised if here are people out their who don’t use it from time to time. As it’s become more and more popular, people have been submitting more and more copyrighted material. YouTube has been monitoring the content from time to time; but their old system didn’t really work out since you would still find episodes of your favorite TV shows. Well, it seems that YouTube has decided to change all that to avoid all the lawsuits. Late night, YouTube has added a new filter which requires content owners to upload all the material that they want to protect. Then, YouTube would scan new content to make sure that they didn’t contain the same thing.
From Arstechnica:
After months of threats, pleadings, and lawsuits from content owners, YouTube finally rolled out its video content identification system last night. The service is still in beta, but the company claims that “early tests with content companies have shown very promising results.”
So. It seems that you’re not going to be able to watch your favorite shows on YouTube are you? I personally don’t really like this system since I actually enjoy watching Family Guy clips on YouTube. However, I don’t really think this system is going to work out. People out there are always going to try to find a way to bypass this, and I think they might be really successful. However, YouTube will probably upgrade the system from time to time and make it so you just wasted your time.
I also don’t think it’s fair for the content owners; especially if they have tons of content they want to protect. Do they really have to spend all that time uploading their content one by one? In any case, I feel sorry for anyone who has content to protect because they’re going to have to upload everything they have if they want it to be protected.
