Does Private Domain Name Registration Aid Terrorists?

  • No Related Post

While privacy advocates applaud private domain name registration services, which hide personal information and even the name of the domain name’s owner, some are questioning if it aides criminals and even terrorists.

The Canadian The Globe and Mail implies that these private domain name registration services impede law enforcement and provide shelter to terrorists as it’s more difficult to determine who owns a domain name and where they reside. However, there is little to stop someone from registering a domain name with a false name and address or changing the information to such after payment has been completed.

Should domain name registrars be banned from providing private registration? Should there be checks in place to confirm the identity and location of the registrar? What do you think?

I had my page privatized, after discovering anyone ans his brother could look up my address and phone number. That would be really screwed up if they would require us to post that openly. I have actually been threatened on the Internet by people who didn’t like what I had to say, really doesn’t seem right to hand them over my location. This whole privacy thing is just getting so redundant. I go to some service/business/corporation, and am handed a piece of paper telling me their privacy policy, and making sure no one knows my information but me. Then I turn around, and these very same companies are taking away my privacy rights. It was all just an illusion. Give the people what they want, and then take away their privacy on the level most won’t even notice at first.. Like during the prohibition of weed, they used the word marijuana to get all of the people to illegalize this evil plant. No one knew spanish. They thought it was hemp, or weed…this evil marijuana was supposed to be of the devil. A lot of the people who signed the ballet to illegalize it, were smoking it. It is all about trickery and deception to keep the people passive. Make it appear they are getting what they are wanting, We are given an illusionary protection, therefore we are supposed to feel secure, while they take away from us the very thing they offered. They have no right to steal our lives and splatter them about as they see fit. Just like all of the lying news stories out there, you can slant a person’s life in any direction you so choose. That is how people become president. It is all about marketing. Tell a good story as to why you are doing something, and everyone will follow along. Some people it seems actually believe we should be a police state. Of course slaves have often been reported throughout history to resist freedom, preferring the shackles of their masters. If there were only fewer sheep.

I firmly believe you should have the choice to privitize your personal details and some domain sellers do provide this option. Obviously if your a business you want people to know who you are and where to find you. So if your looking to buy a domain name, beyond price, the ability to protect your personal details should be added to your list of criteria.
