Is Your Computer Talking To You?

If your computer starts talking and making threats it might already be too late for your data.

A new virus being spread over P2P networks, through USB drives, discs, and infected web sites starts talking once it has infected a system.

It uses the Windows Text Reader to say outloud, “You has [sic] been infected. I repeat you has been infected and your system files has been deleted. Sorry. Have a nice day and bye bye.”

Meanwhile it deletes the entire contents of the computer’s hard disk and takes steps to make it difficult to stop or recover the data it is deleting.

It’s pretty odd to see a virus that is destructive like this. Typically most viruses today want to be stealthy so they can be used to collect personal information for identity theft or be used by spammers to send spam. Researchers are quite perplexed but it.

I have no sympathy for people who get infected. Online hazards are not exactly a surprise at this point, are they?

But I have to say that I’d *love* to put the talking part of the code on certain pc’s at work, as a gag. To watch their faces would be priceless :)
