Verizon’s Talking Points For iPhone Laughable

An alleged leaked Verizon document that was supposedly given to all of Verizon’s sales associates includes talking points to counter act customers that might want to leave Verizon to get an iPhone.
The document criticizes the iPhone because it doesn’t allow “over-the-air” music downloads and that you must connect it to your PC to load music, and that you should stay near a plug as the battery cannot be swapped for a spare.
It also has talking points of customers should mention some of its unique features.
“Wi-Fi is not a mobile technology,” Verizon explains. “You have to be in a fixed location to use it — and that’s if you know where to find it. And some Wi-Fi hotspots make you pay to use them. There’re also those pesky concerns about security of Wi-Fi.”
As for the Apple handset’s touch screen, “it sounds cool,” claims Verizon, “but if you’re a heavy text or email user, it could be challenging not being able to feel the keys as you press them.”

I wasn’t aware of the non-removable battery. That would kill it for me. This means that a service fee for battery replacement comes every one to two years. This was an INCREDIBLY STUPID idea. The rest is neither here nor there.
As someone who has sold cell phones for several years and used all brands and carriers, the tack Verizon should be using is the one I, so successfully, used. “You want to be able to use your phone, don’t you?” I haven’t sold them in 4 years, but then as now, it’s the network. I’d like to think I had something to do with that slogan, ’cause I was using it 8 years ago. True then, true now.

Why are the points “laughable”? Perhaps to an Apple fanboy…
It’s pretty darn common to analyze the products of your competitors and point out their weaknesses to your potential customers. Obviously, the speed of the EDGE network should also be high on their list.

Laughable to a fanboy is a correct statement. Wi-Fi is not a mobile technology and should not be touted as such. There is the lack of insurance available for the phone (Apple will not allow AT&T to insure the phone). If the phone is stolen or you accidently drop it on the concrete you’re out of luck. There is also the interal SIM card… you’re stuck with it no matter where in the world you go. Hello high international roaming charges! And the real killer - the non-user-replaceable battery. I have had a RAZR for the last 18 months and have already had to replace the battery. If not for that ability, I would be out a phone or $299 retail for a new phone until it came time for me to upgrade again. With the iPhone you will be out a phone for a couple of weeks while Apple replaces the battery for you. The sad part is that fanboys will buy it because it’s Apple and the non-fanboys will buy it as they are blinded by the slickness of the features. I for one will not even consider this phone until Apple allows me to at least replace the battery myself should the need arise.
