I strongly suggest that you never lead someone on by giving them a fake number or a real number and then avoiding their calls. It is best to always be truthful while still being gracious and compassionate. Start off by saying, “I’m flattered but ….” and use a valid reason. You could say you don’t date outside your race or religion if that’s case or even something more simplistic like “we’re too different.”
