Another Reason To Dump Norton Anti-Virus

According to reports, since Friday, millions of computers have been crashing with Blue Screens Of Death after downloading an update to Norton Anti Virus.
The latest virus Norton database was upgraded on May 17. According to some PC experts, this software, after the upgrade, would regard two essential system files (netapi32.dll, lsasrv.dll) as viruses by mistake and clear them away from computers installed with Windows XP. That causes the computer to be locked up even after a reboot.
Norton is promising a solution soon but if I were you I’d stop using Norton right now and instead get yourself a copy of NOD32. NOD32 is so much faster, reliable, and less resource intensive. While Norton is bloated and is always causing more problems than the viruses it fails to protect you from.

Norton utilities have always been known to interfere with whole system, where they don’t belong. What suckers are using this, after 1997? Piece of garbage…

A word of warning ALL antivirus programs have problems at some point in time.
I used NOD32 for almost 10 years now. NOD32 had a similar problem about 6 years ago, crashing the system because of a bad update incorrectly thought a critical system file was a virus. The bad update only lasted about 10 hours, but it still reaked havoc with the people that got caught by the bad update.
Also, about 4 years ago one of the NOD32 scanner features did not play nicely with Windows 2003 server software. Caused very random system crashes over several weeks. New version of NOD32 warn not to install the feature on Server 2003 systems.
Bottom line: Do I use NOD32? Absolutely. Do I recommend NOD32? Without a doubt. Will I be caution of NOD32 updates or any other antivirus product updates? You better believe it!

Norton, McAfee et al are bloated crapware. They cause more problems than they solve and you get the added bonus of paying for this privilege. Do yourself, your computer and your wallet and use one of the many free anti virus scanner. They are often have a very low memory footprint and do not take over your computer. Clamwin, AVG, BitDefender are just a few of the many fine free products that won’t cause you any hassle. And if they do well at least you didn’t pay for the hassle.
