Go To Sleep At The Flick Of A Switch

Researchers have invented a device that stimulates the brain into deep sleep. A two or three hour nap with the device can have the same benefits as a full night’s sleep.

A device worn on the head could squeeze the benefit of eight hours’ sleep into just two or three hours.

Scientists in the US used a technique called transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to induce slow waves - indicative of the deepest phase of sleep and essential for learning ability and mood, in a group of sleeping volunteers.

A TMS device sends harmless magnetic signals through the scalp and skull and into the brain, where it activates electrical impulses.

The researchers found that positioning the TMS machine the right way triggered slow waves that travelled throughout the brain.

This sounds absolutely amazing. Sign me up! I always wished I could get enough sleep for the day in just two-three hours. I’d buy one of these as soon as they’re available! Wouldn’t you?

What are your thoughts?

Absolutely amazing! This would be great for parents of disabled children (like my wife and I). Trust me, there are many nights that caregivers don’t get much sleep.

Hmm sounds great in principal but what if inducing currents in your brain using TMS has an as yet undiscovered adverse effects? No substitute for natural sleep in my opinion. Having said that, it would be handy for putting the wife on ’standby’ ;-)

All well and good if you’re mentally exhausted, but what about physical tiredness???

The cells and other wet ‘n’ soggy bits still need the full sleep-time to rejuvenate/regenerate back.

Saying that though, Yes, I would like one when possible :-)))

My wife is constantly pleading with me to get more sleep, but the evening is the primary time for me to work on freelance projects and websites. It’s when I get the most writing work done.

But, with one of these I could work until 3am, power-sleep, and actually get to the office early - and awake!

Hopefully the technology won’t cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and cause horrible diseases :)

There’s another alternative: Holosync……..from Centerpointe.com
I use it everyday to get extra sleep and benefits. Uses Binaural Beats to put the Brain into Alpha, Gamma, etc 30 min to one hour. These are deeper meditative states and I find them very relaxing, too. Maybe a little pricey, but much less than what the TMS will probably cost.(I’ve been doing this program for over a year and really find it worth while.)

What do you think?
