Wikipedia “Broken Beyond Repair,” Co-Founder Claims

Wikipedia has become over run by trolls and inaccurate information. The fight for control of many articles there isn’t measured by accuracy of information submitted but rather who has more free time on their hands to keep reverting their edits.

…Larry Sanger, who helped to found Wikipedia in 2001, said that the site was “broken beyond repair” and no longer reliable.

Wikipedia is among the top ten most visited sites on the Internet, containing more than six million articles contributed only by members of the public. But it has been criticised for being riddled with inaccuracies and nonsense.

Personally, I only use Wikipedia when I have a general idea about a topic and just want to confirm it, otherwise I look for more reliable information from several sites and compare the information to make an informed decision.

Perhaps there should be tighter control of editing on Wiki. Like a 3 day period for peer review, before the information is posted.

The comment that edit revisions occur and trolls predominate is spot on. The wikis I have visited have been found to be not worth the bytes they take to store. The amount of erroneous, wrong and blatantly politicized information has made the wiki concept a joke at best. While it was a great concept, the troll activities have damaged it beyond help.
