TiVo and Amazon.com partnered to allow you to download movies directly to your Series2 or Series3 TiVo.
Signing up and getting those movies on to your TiVo is pretty easy. Just follow these steps:
- Your TiVo must be connected to the Internet through a home network. TiVo offers a wireless adapter to make this easy.
- Create a TiVo account (if you don’t already have one) and name your TiVo box(es) (if you haven’t already done so.)
- Sign up for an Amazon.com account if you don’t already have one.
- Link your Amazon.com account to your TiVo. Look for the “Unbox for TiVo” link on this page.
- Find and pick movies to download to your TiVo on Amazon.com’s Unbox service.
- When you purchase the movie, select your TiVo DVR as a download destination, and the movie will be downloaded directly to your TiVo. Download times vary depending on your actual Internet connection speed, the speed of your home networking hardware, and the length of the video. With a fast broadband connection (5 Mbps), a movie can download in about an hour, while a 1-hour TV episode can download in about 30 minutes. However, on a slower broadband connection (less than 1 Mbps), a movie can take up to 5 hours.
Your Amazon Unbox downloads to your TiVo are permanently stored in Your Media Library at Amazon.com. Your Amazon Unbox on TiVo downloads can appear on up to two TiVo boxes or computers—use “Your Media Library” to delete from one device and send it to another. Content can be deleted from your TiVo box to create more space, and re-downloaded when you want to watch them again. (Due to licensing restrictions certain new release movies are unavailable for re-download for an unspecified period of time starting 90 days after their release date. While these movies can be viewed as often as you like during this window, they cannot be re-downloaded from Your Media Library.)
