Mac market share increasing

More and more users are switching to Apple and the Mac OS according to the web stats from over 40,000 different web pages.

Market Share/NetApplications published their February 2007 numbers and it shows that non-Intel-based Macs and Intel Macs make up 6.38 percent of the total operating system market. A 0.26 percent rise over January 2007, and a 2.05 percent rice from August of 2006.

As the complaints about Vista continue to increase, expect Apple’s market share to continue to rise. I predict Apple’s market share will rise at a more rapid rate once Leopard, the next Mac OS update, is released. Hanging on Windows ME users are also being forced to upgrade as popular tax filing programs refuse to run on it and it seems many of them are moving to Apple instead of a new Vista computer.

Things are going to start getting very interesting for Apple. For Microsoft, depressing. I’m ready to declare Vista an outright flop, and not based on these numbers. Rather user’s complaints about it. It certainly hasn’t sold as well as XP did and I don’t recall XP driving anyone to switch to Apple when it was first released.
