The Most Annoying Things About Windows Vista

  • No Related Post

Edward N. Albro and Eric Dahl of PCWorld have published what they dislike most about Window’s Vista.

While it covers about 13 gripes, only 11 of them apply to all versions of Vista. But in any case, I think the list is lacking several other major complaints. Read through my series of Vista posts for a sampling.

I said it before and I’ll be saying it again…reinstall XP, or if you are due for a new computer try to get one with XP, buy a Mac, or try Ubuntu .

I wish people would stop whining about Vista. I’ve been using it for 3 months now and can’t really complain. Yeah, there are devices out there which don’t have drives for Vista, and there are still some application incompatibilities, but all these will get fixed in time.

Plus, you always have the choice right? If you don’t like Vista, get a Mac or a computer with some other obscure OS. Bottom line is, 90% of the people out there probably don’t care what OS they’re running, as long as it does the job.

Having used Vista for a couple of weeks i have to say its not brilliant, pretty yes, but at the expense of being an utter resource hog. It also has lots of annoying bits, mostly for me that a lot of apps that run great on XP just dont run on Vista or dont run correctly. On your average year or so old PC you will more than likely find your machine running a lot slower than with XP and without gaining any advantages either. So to sum up, nice to look at if you have a machine that can stand the strain and a pocket that can too, otherwise stick with XP, you really are not missing much.

Owen, you really miss the point in why so man people complain about Vista. The fact of the matter is Vista does not address any pressing issues in the OS world. Why go out and purchase something that only ADDS more problems?? XP was running just fine. Windows Vista is a memory hog.

Vista is pretty cool, but I agree that it is not addressing any of the problems, only distracting people with flashy lights and awesome graphics so that no one cares about the real underlying problems.

Though I agree with the “flashy lights” comment above, I have a different opinion as to what it is meant to distract us from:

Vista does adress one major issue: Digital Rights Management. Of course, this isn’t USER CENTRIC, as they would have us believe, Vista is meant to be.

It seems clear to me Microsoft wants to get on the content distribution bandwagon as soon as possible. The only way it (MS) thinks this is will be viable is if they can manage protecting their content to maximize paying subscriptions. So ok, we all know that they are not a philanthropical organisation. Why do you think they have agreements with NBC (media outlet) and Sympatico (data/bandwidth provider)?

I’m sure you smart cookies got it all figured out by now. :)

Cheers!
