Your Face Can Be Your Password

Recognix has released a program called FaceCode that can allow you to use your web cam and your face to logon to your computer.
According to Recognix, FaceCode scans your face by measuring its physical characteristics and then can recognize and verify the same face again to login to your computer or restrict access to programs and files.
It takes several minutes to have it do its initial scans or as they call it, enrollment. According to Reconix once you are enrolled its detection of your face is pretty quick.
There are a couple of caveats. It doesn’t work too well if its used on a computer that is moved to other locations and positions (like a notebook. ) It needs the background to remain the same. In addition your computer and the web cam cannot be positioned so that a window is behind your face as back-lighting and even changing light conditions will confuse the face recognition process. Your face also needs to be evenly light since shadows also cause problems.
These problems might rule out usage for a lot of people as it’ll probably be quicker to type in your password than constantly fighting with it to recognize you. I’m not to sure about it for this reason. Maybe if you have a hard time remembering your password it would be useful, otherwise I think it might be more cumbersome than productive.
